Project Details
Nanometer-resolved ultrafast spin and electron dynamics at magnetic surfaces (A06)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
This project explores magnetization dynamics at surfaces and in multilayers on nanometer and femtosecond scales using pump-probe PEEM and momentum-resolved 2PPE. Magnetic domain dynamics with 20-100 nm resolution are imaged via magnetic dichroism under threshold and two-photon excitation. The focus is on antiferromagnetic, multiferroic, and altermagnetic materials such as NiO, CoO, BiFeO₃, and RuO₂. Nanostructuring enables spatial control of excitations using on-chip THz and optical fields. The project advances ultrafast photoemission imaging in complex oxides and aims to reveal key mechanisms of spintronic functionality and magnetic order control in quantum materials.
