Project Details
– Interfacial effects in ultrafast spin and electron dynamics (A07)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
We explore the time-resolved response of individual layers in magnetic layered systems upon ultrafast excitations by infrared or visible-light pulses using element-selective pump–probe x-ray spectroscopy. We want to reveal the effectiveness of local and nonlocal mechanisms and the transfer of excitation across interfaces between magnetic layers with specific spin structure such as ferromagnetic, collinear or noncollinear antiferromagnetic, or ferrimagnetic, and to find out how the excitation is converted at interfaces between layers of different spin structure and how this is influenced by interface properties. Another goal of the project is the ultrafast manipulation of the Néel vector of antiferromagnets by ultra-short light pulses.
