Social Policy in Rural Areas of Africa (B09)

Project B09 explores the diffusion of social policy in rural areas of Africa. Tackling rural poverty and exclusion involves the areas of agricultural and food policy, public health, schooling, and basic social protection. The analysis takes the form of comparative case studies (Botswana, Morocco, Mozambique, Zambia, Tunisia, Uganda since 2000) and focuses in particular on: (1) the socio-economic transformation of rural areas, (2) the political and symbolic representation of rural areas, and (3) the material policies that address rural changes as well as problem areas.
