The Central Project (CP1) is responsible for the scientific coordination and administrative organization of the Clinical Research Unit (KFO) headed by Paul Brinkkoetter (scientific coordinator, see also "Concept for Research professorship"). The primary goal of this KFO is to transfer findings from basic research into clinical practice in the diagnosis and treatment of glomerular diseases and to transfer clinical observations into the lab to refine our experimental models. The basis for this is a regular and structured exchange between colleagues in the natural sciences and physician scientists from multiple disciplines. Specific measures include participation in the master's program in biology at University of Cologne (UoC) as well as seminars for medical students and physicians during residency. The latter also includes 3 Gerok rotation positions for physicians. The candidates will be liberated from all clinical duties and interrupt their clinical training for up to 2 years. During this time they will work in one of the participating laboratories of the CRU. Furthermore, CP1, together with the "KFO329 gender and family support board", coordinates all measures for gender equality and family support and organizes an annual international symposium on glomerular diseases, a premeeting for young researchers as part of the International Podocyte Conference as well as all public relations activities including the organization of a patient day.
