Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 401738767

Within the planned Research Project the development of semifinished products with optimized damping properties based on pseudoelastic iron-based shape memory alloys will be focused in the investigations. The iron-based FGL alloy system Fe36Mn8Al8,5Ni is to be used for the investigations due to the promising properties of current research projects. The proposal is based on the preliminary work i nthe preceding project "Functional fatigue of Fe-based shape memory alloys" and aims on the Transfer of the konowledge into into a practice-oriented application. By means of thermomechanical process routes corresponding to microstructured metal sheets made of Fe-Mn-Al-Ni, provided by the cooperating company thyssenkrupp SE, are characterized in the Institute of Materials Technology / Metallic Materials of the University of Kassel and at the Leibniz Universität Hannover processed to functionalized components. In this context, joining processes with and without the use of filler material are investigated at the IW in Hanover in order to clarify further fundamental questions regarding the weldability and the resulting effects on the mechanical as well as the shape memory properties. Within the framework of the project, filler wire for the welding processesin case of the specific connections is developed, produced and qualified. Demonstrators in the form of welded sheet metal stacks or pipes which can assume a damping task are produced and thoroughly characterized in terms of their functional properties depending on the different process routes. Against this background, in the planned transfer project, the production of SME damping components is to be achieved by the use of structures which are set in a microstructured manner, produced by a pilot plant of the industrial partner, which simulates the industrial process.
