Patterns of resistance gene evolution in roses as models for heterozygous outcrossing woody perennials

Subject Area Plant Breeding and Plant Pathology
Term from 2007 to 2010
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 40239881

In addition to sequence information on two contigs around the disease resistance gene Rdr1 additional sequence information will be obtained on parts of the genomic region from a third species. The main part of the project will be concerned with isolation of a larger sample RGA paralogues from natural populations of the diploid rose species R. arvensis. In addition a screen for RGA allele variation using an SSR marker embedded in a conserved part of the RGA LRR region will be performed both in a larger sample of R. arvensis plants and a sample from populations of R. canina a pentaploid with largely apomictic reproduction. The data will significantly complement the sequence data from the two contigs and sequences of individual RGA from related species obtained within the running project. These data will help to analyse the evolutionary history and factors influencing molecular diversity of a TIR-NBS-LRR family in woody perennial roses.
