Compact induction coils without a bulky permanent magnet are designed and operated as powerful electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMAT) for contact-less ultrasound testing of metallic objects. More, novel and relevant applications for these EMATs are stimulated due to increased range of contact-less coupling, smaller sizes and less geometrical restrictions.
