The overall aim of project A09 is to understand the organization and dynamics of cAMP signaling cascade in murine and human thermogenic adipocytes. We will visualize cAMP microdomains generated by different activators focusing on adenosine versus β-adrenergic receptors to ignite thermogenesis in brown/beige adipocytes. We will dissect the molecular underpinnings of cAMP organization that shape function especially of AKAP scaffolding proteins. Moreover, we will investigate the role of adenosine signaling in tuning cytokines to modulate the adipocyte-macrophage communication and inflammation.
