ERA NANOSCI: Three-terminal transport through single-molecule magnets

Applicant Professor Dr. Maarten Rolf Wegewijs
Subject Area Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2007 to 2011
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 40465500

Project Description

We propose a systematic investigation of electron transport through individual, tailor-made singlemolecule magnets with the goal of controlling the interplay between transport properties and nanomagnetism at the molecular level. In particular we will pursue electrical control of magnetic parameters and the identification of magnetic states by three-terminal transport measurements. Our efforts in the synthesis of new customized single-molecule magnets and in their controlled wiring into molecular three-terminal devices will be complemented by the development of theoretical models for a quantitative analysis of experimental results. The complementary expertise of each of the three groups on synthesis, transport measurements and theoretical modeling respectively is crucial for this project.
