Project Details
Optical and vibrational properties of functionalized synthetic carbon allotropes (B13)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2018 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149
The project focuses on spatially defined covalent and non-covalent functionalization of synthetic carbon allotropes (SCAs) and their optical and vibrational properties. We will develop different routes for spatially patterning the reactivity of graphene and CNT, e.g. by patterning the underlying substrate. Furthermore, non-covalent interactions in SCAs will be studied, in particular in diamondoid derivatives, in inter-SCA architectures, such as twisted bilayer graphene and PAHs, and in nanographene networks on surfaces. Based on fundamental understanding obtained with resonant Raman spectroscopy, Raman mapping, and TERS, our goal is to gain spatial control over covalent and non-covalent interactions in SCAs.
