Project Details
Quantum error correction and new phases of matter (B01/B02 [Erg.]#)
Subject Area
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2018 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277101999
Starting with the seminal work of Kitaev, it was realised that various aspects of quantum error correction provided deep insights into problems in condensed matter theory; in particular for our understanding of topological phases. The goal of this supplementary project is to explore some of the new connections between quantum error correction and many-body theory, including thermally stable topological phases and boundary theories. The new theory of local approximate error correcting codes will help extend this correspondence to critical systems, including models of holography.
