Pre- and peri-reproduction challenges as risk factors for neurodevelopmental disorders:Neurodevelopmental disorders: Neurodevelopment is the dynamic interplay between genes, brain, cognition, emotion and behavior across the developmental course. Disruptions to this process might lead to neurodevelopmental disorders (NDs) which constitute a heterogeneous group of neuropsychiatric illnesses with overt social, motor, cognitive and affective disabilities. A wide spectrum of environmental factors is known to play a substantial role in the etiology of NDs, among which is the maternal status. The current animal-experimental research proposal aims at studying maternal-related environmental factors prior to and during conception as risk factors for NDs in the progeny.
