Soil structure and mass transfer with NMR: From pore-scale patterns to meter-scale hydraulics (B07 (ehem. A01))

Subject Area Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Limnology, Urban Water Management, Water Chemistry, Integrated Water Resources Management
Physical Chemistry of Molecules, Liquids and Interfaces, Biophysical Chemistry
Term from 2007 to 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 15232683

Soil moisture, soil water transport and soil hydraulic parameters will be assessed on the pore-to-centimeter scale by means of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in order to provide field maps of local soil physical parameters, soil hydraulic permeability and dual permeability. These parameters will serve as a parametric uplink from local soil properties and processes on the pore scale to soil hydrological modeling on the meter-to-field scale for improved simulations of water and energy transfer between the land surface and the atmosphere.
