Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

In this project, we have analyzed the coupled motion of magnetic domain walls. These objects are possible candidates to be used in magnetic racetrack devices, which would increase the information storage capacity while even reducing the energy consumption. This naturally works on very small length scales and the domain walls can be very close to each other. We investigated one of the possible proximity effects – the interlayer exchange coupling – and described the according effects on the domain wall dynamics systematically. As a major result of our calculations, we found that the interlayer exchange can have beneficial effects on the domain wall velocity as it can prevent the Walker breakdown under certain conditions. This increases the maximum velocity and thus the possible information flow in the device.
