MPS-mouse: Mobile hand-held Magnetic Particle Spectroscopy
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
In this project, the feasibility of building a fully equipped, mobile, handheld Magnetic Particle Spectrometer (MPS) was investigated. The goal was to provide a cost-efficient and easy-to-use device to researcher in different fields. For that, cost-efficient (e.g., high performance microcontroller PSoC 5LP), easy-available or easy-to-build components (utilizing 3D-printing) have been developed and used to construct the MPS-MOUSE (MPS-MObile Universal Surface Explorer). In initial tests, the sensitivity of the receive chain, the performance of the transmit chain and the robustness of the hardware was sufficient for performing proof-of-concept experiments in different areas. E.g., material fingerprinting and characterization: besides the distinguishing of multiple SPION types (superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles), non-magnetic materials, such as copper or aluminum, can be characterized. In addition, using the home-built camera-based tracking feature, the MPS-MOUSE can be tracked along large areas to visualize 2D surfaces.
