The IMM-PACT-Programme for Clinician Scientists entitled “Targeting common principles of immune mediated disease: from basic science to novel therapies” has been successfully integrated into the structured career pathway of the Medical Faculty of Freiburg. IMM-PACT has reached its major goals by including three key components: An excellent scientific research programme, a continuous mentoring and qualification programme and an innovative leadership-training-programme. Importantly, these three key components incorporate the 10 goals of the IMM-PACT-Programme:• 3-year structured CS programme • Guaranteed protected time for research • Rigorous selection process of the CS, PIs, projects and mentors • Internationally competitive translational research on immune-mediated disease • Flexible combination of research and patient care (50:50 over 3 years) • Professional leadership training programme • Individualized course programme for key qualification and soft skills (obligatory and optional) • Interdisciplinary seminars, meetings, symposia and translational clinical conferences • Dedicated continuous mentoring by trained and optimally matched mentors • Starter and bridging funds. Except for the starter funds all 10 goals were successfully implemented during the first funding period and 25 Clinician Scientists have benefited from the programme so far.
