Final Report Abstract

The ZBW is a central information infrastructure institution for economics. It fulfils a supraregional supply mandate for economic literature. As part of a DFG-funded project in the area of "Scientific Literature Supply and Information Systems" (LIS), the Economist Intelligence Unit's Country Reports from July 2011 to 2018 were made available in a national licence during the reporting period 2019 to 2021. A ZBW-led consortium for the ongoing content of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Country Reports accompanied this project. The delayed retrospective licensing ensures the long-term availability of the EIU Country Reports and provides access to a significant, comprehensive and structured data pool of macroeconomic and economic policy indicators for economic research, as well as for political science and regional science research throughout Germany. Currently 309 scientific institutions in Germany are registered for the national licence hosted by the ZBW, with a slight increase in recent years. For a relatively specialised service, usage is stable at around 3,000 accesses per year and is within the expected range. The annual volumes licensed through the project are based on the existing national licence and thus ensure continuity in the timing of the Country Reports. The ZBW has secured the continuation of the archive within the framework of the EIU consortium for current content on its own account until 2024.
