Influence of Auto-Ignition on the Driving Mechanisms Leading to High Frequency Combustion Instabilities in Premixed Turbulent Flames

Before the full potential of two-stage lean reheat combustion for further reduction of pollutant emissions can be exploited, suitable strategies for avoiding high frequency (HF) combustion instabilities in such combustion systems must be developed. In this context the challenge for basic research is to identify the mechanisms leading to loss of stability and to close the current gap in modelling of HF-instabilities by providing the missing models on acoustic flame feedback and effective stability analysis methods. The proposed research aims at providing data from a novel test facility of unique acoustic design, which has been particularly designed for HF instability research of (partially) auto-ignition stabilized flames. This platform has been successfully commissioned so far and it is operational for being used in the proposed project for the first time. The experimental data will be employed for the further development of simulation methods and in particular for the derivation flame dynamics models suited for stability analyses with linear modelling frameworks.
