Synthesis, properties, and switching of valence tautomeric metal complex in solution, solid state, and self-assembled monolayers: from photoswitches to chemosensors

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2018 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 415715861

The project encompasses two subprojects dealing with valence tautomeric metal-dioxolene complexes. 1) Novel bistable cobalt-dioxolenes featuring anchoring groups will be synthesized and chemically grafted to gold and aluminium oxide surfaces. The obtained surface deposits will be switched thermally and with light allowing the control of magnetic properties of 2D materials at the molecular level. 2) The possibility to use valence tautomeric cobalt-dioxolenes as chemical sensors will be studied. Different classes of monodentate and bidentate ligands will be used as substrates in sensing experiments in solutions at room temperature. The molecular sensors will respond visually and magnetically.
