This project aims to investigate in detail the relation between two non-perturbative approaches to quantum and statistical field theory: the functional renormalization group and the operator product expansion. In the framework of the functional renormalization group, novel approximation schemes for the operator product expansion are proposed building on two formalisms recently put forward by us. To obtain a full understanding, the project includes the explicit study of certain statistical models via complementary methods.
