Final Report Abstract

In the course of the project, it was possible for the first time to develop a comprehensive evaluation system for medium-voltage cable systems that combines the most relevant diagnostic procedures used in practice. In this way, a MV cable system can be evaluated much more precisely, as almost all relevant insulation-damaging processes can be diagnosed. The insulation-damaging processes on MV cable systems were previously identified and assigned to the respective insulation technology in order to clarify the relevance of the selected diagnostic procedures. With the development of uniform diagnostic indicators, the different insulation technologies and cable components can be compared with each other. The intuitive graphical representation of the evaluation results of entire MV cable systems makes the results both uniform and clear. Furthermore, comparative measurements were carried out within the partial discharge diagnostic procedures to demonstrate their comparability. Laboratory tests were also carried out on more than 30 cable sections. Unfortunately, the targeted 100 laboratory test samples could not be achieved. In addition, an exact verification of the defect locations in the cable insulations was not possible. The project also brought important follow-up questions regarding the ageing behaviour of medium-voltage cable systems. By analysing many measurements using the evaluation system described, it was possible to generate condition trends over a significant period of time, which also led to a publication. The project can thus be seen as a foundation for the development of precise condition trends, which could lead to fundamental changes in asset management with regard to the service life assessment of MV cable components.
