Quality in bioanalysis of lipid mediators

The analysis of lipid mediators in biological samples is a very challenging procedure due to several factors such as lack of standard compounds in analytical quality, lack of suitable internal standards, very low endogenous concentrations or the presence of multiple interferences in the samples. To study the comparability of analytical results obtained from several laboratories, an interlaboratory comparison for the analysis of several prostanoids in human plasma samples has been organized. From the obtained heterogeneous results can be concluded, that it is imperative to study the factors which can influence the quantification of lipid mediators in bioanalytical samples and to develop guidelines and recommendations for the analysis of these compounds. These are the aims of the proposed “wissenschaftliches Netzwerk”. This network includes people working at seven different facilities, all of them with demonstrated experience in the field of bioanalysis of lipid mediators.
