Research on methods and tools bridging innovation and engineering management requires integrated synchronised data acquisition and analysis from collaboration and parallel human technology interaction. Use cases for the requested major research instrumentation are:1) Development of innovative methods and tools for collaborative innovation and engineering management,2) validation of functionality and applicability of digital and virtual tools, e. g. by means of User Experience methods,3) evaluation of visualisations for innovative ideas and products as well as infrastructure support of early design phases, e. g. for flexible use of physical and virtual prototypes, and4) development and validation of concepts and systems for upstream and downstream processes in product creation.Core requirement for the requested major research instrumentation is the possibility to configure test beds for specific research questions, case studies and long-term studies in a flexible, efficient and reproducible way. Therefore, it needs to be structured in modules and support the observation of parallel workshops by synchronous application of its main functionalities collaboration, visualisation and analysis. Key topics are determined by the combined use of digital and virtual tools as well as virtual prototypes/ products/ production system components. Applying the requested major research instrumentation, evaluation of single methods and tools as well as comparison among each other are made possible.
