As an overall result of TP3 on art- and architecture-historical processes in sacred space transformations in the Aachen and Leipzig area, three main goals are aimed at: 1) setting up a comparative systematics on transformation processes and models in post-war churches in West and East Germany, 2) elaborating the significance of art historical materiality and the role of monument preservation in the (value) discourses around sacred space transformations and the practices of their implementation, 3) analyzing historical and contemporary artistic transformations in the church space as a sacred-hybrid and transcultural-participatory model of reception (experience space). All three objectives serve to elaborate the significance of cultural-historical and aesthetic criteria in sacred space transformations, to question them, to place them in discourse with the criteria of the other TP, and to make them fruitful for a practice-oriented "instruction manual" for successful models of conversion, as well as to contribute circumstantial evidence for a contemporary theory of sacred space.
