Subject Area

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 197396619
The subproject D6 investigates the relationship between otium and patronage on the basis of case studies on exemplary authors and (con-)texts from early modern literatures in Italy and France. The methodical approach relies on an interaction between historical, philological and literary analysis as well as archive-, library- and field studies. The aim of this research project is to put under scrutiny the possibilities and types of the institutionalisation of otium, the specification of which can lie in the contrasting fields between the creation of free spaces and their regulation.
