Project Details
Cathepsin B in the development of Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (B14#)
Subject Area
Nephrology
Term
from 2019 to 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 125440785
Our aim of this study is to identify the role of cathepsin B in glomerular disease progression during the development of a focal segmental glomerulosclerosis causing the nephrotic syndrome. Additionally, the impact of paracrine cathepsin B in the renal collecting duct on edema formation and hypertension, important features of the nephrotic syndrome, will be analyzed. We plan to investigate the transmission of a glomerular disease towards the collecting duct system by extracellular vesicles and translate our knowledge to bedside and identify whether cathepsin B and other urinary proteases are markers for the frequent relapse of a nephrotic syndrome.
