Variation of precipitation and flood dynamics in Central Europe during the Holocene on the basis of dendrochronological and documentary data (HOLOFLOOD)

Subject Area Palaeontology
Term from 2007 to 2010
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 42266983

The research proposal will determine climate dynamics due to analysis of climate anomalies during the last 10.000 years. This will be done by combining two unique climate archives (documentary data back to 1.000 AD, dendrochronological data back 10.000 BP). With this approach the climate dynamics can be studied on a long time scale. Time series for key climatic parameters will be modelled by applying a transfer function. The modelled results allow a reconstruction of climate dynamic processes which led to extreme floods and precipitation anomalies. The determination of climate variability enables the possibility to differentiate between human and natural driving forces of sudden climate changes and will help to understand future climate changes.
