INTERDYNAMIC aims at a better understanding of climate dynamics using quantitative paleoclimate analyses in view of creating more reliable scenarios for future climate change. INTERDYNAMIC is based on an integrated approach in paleoclimate research, in which all available paleoclimate archives (terrestrial and marine as well as ice cores) are combined in order to yield a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of global environmental variations. Moreover, through a close linkage between paleoclimate reconstructions and results from Earth-system models detailed insights into thedynamics of climate variations are gained. The coordination of the SPP INTERDYNAMIC has four overarching goals: (i) to support networking within the SPP and with international programs and pro-jects, (ii) to promote young scientists, (iii) to facilitate access to scientific data generated in the SPP and (iv) to foster the synthesis of results generated within the individual projects. The tasks of the SPP coordinator require the support through a scientific secretary, who will run the INTERDYNAMIC office; the specific tasks include: organizing workshops and annual meetings (in 2013 organizing as an international symposium to present the key findings of the SPP), administrating the stays of young scientists at partner institutions and their participation in summer schools, and maintenance of the INTERDYNAMIC website.
