Investigation of the particle strengthening mechanism under creep loading of TaC-reinforced Co-Re base alloys

The aim of the research proposal is to fundamentally elucidate the strengthening mechanism of TaC precipitates in Co-Re base alloys at high temperatures and to investigate their strengthening potential for elevated temperature applications. This also includes the question as to what extent TaC is optimal or whether a higher strengthening effect can be realized by other monocarbides. In order to answer these questions, a close interaction between experiment and modeling is required. On the experimental side, it is particularly important to investigate the creep behavior and to elucidate the particle-dislocation interaction by transmission electron microscopy. The task of the modeling is in particular to theoretically analyze the particle-dislocation interaction and thus to make predictions for the detachment stress. Likewise, the influence of the mismatch between carbide particles and matrix on the particle-dislocation interaction is to be examined and it is to be determined whether TaC or other monocarbides give an optimum strengthening effect. These investigations, which combine theoretical and experimental methods, should not only expand the basic understanding of the interaction between particles and dislocations at elevated temperatures, but also create the conditions for further optimizing the new group of Co-Re-based high-temperature alloys.
