Final Report Abstract

The aim of the research project "Logistics-Oriented Product Portfolio Evaluation" of the Institute of Production Systems and Logistics was to develop a logistics-oriented evaluation method for product portfolios. To this end, six content-related work packages were completed, dealing with the analysis of logistical driver variables and their interrelationships, the development of an evaluation metric and technique, as well as the development of a workshop concept and a software demonstrator. In work package 1, the criteria for evaluating the products were determined, which, in addition to finance- and market-oriented criteria, also include logisticsrelevant criteria. In work package 2, the evaluation-relevant driver variables were identified, which were linked to logistic problem areas in work package 3. In work package 4, a logistics-oriented evaluation metric was developed and integrated into a workshop concept and a software demonstrator to support implementation in work package 5. In work package 6, the applicability of the concept and the demonstrator was tested using a practical example. The logistics-oriented evaluation method for product portfolios enables companies to specifically optimize their product portfolios, taking into account logistic evaluation criteria. It incorporates market and finance-oriented key figures to enable a multidimensional evaluation. The method thus represents a promising opportunity to improve the logistical, market-economic, and financeoriented perspectives of product portfolios and to strengthen the competitiveness of companies.
