Subject Area General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
German Literary and Cultural Studies (Modern German Literature)
Term from 2019 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 425885011

The aim of the project is to convert the yearbook of the AG Medien in the Symposion Deutschdidaktik e.V. (SDD), which is released as print publication since 2002, into the Open Access Journal MiDU (Medien im Deutschunterricht / Media in German literature and language classes). Therefore, the basis is an Open Journal Systems (OJS) entity which will be established at the Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek Köln in order to support other projects in digital publication in the future, too. The new E-Journal MiDU will be a forum with open and worldwide access for theoretical and empirical research in the field of German media didactics. This will allow the research contributions to be easily found and widly ranged and will also build a stronger interdisciplinary networking. What is more, the digital platform provides the preconditions for a more adequate representation of media as object of research, e.g. by integrating audio and video files into the journal’s articles. Hence, through MiDU a forum for experimental forms of multimodal academic writing will be introduced. The quality of the online journal will be warrented through a combination of a double-blind-review-system, an editorial review system and an open review system. MiDU is intended as a pilot project which aims to sustain and foster the acceptance of open access publishing in the professional community of German language and literature didactics. Furthermore, it might become a role model for other working groups in the Symposion Deutschdidaktik.
