Titan-Saphir Lasersystem (UV-NIR)

Subject Area Condensed Matter Physics
Term Funded in 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 427284669

We apply for a frequency-stabilized Ti-sapphire laser SolsTiS plus pump laser fabricated by the company M squared, which shall be extended with corresponding modules so that it can be operated across the whole spectral range from the near-UV (> 200 nm wavelength) to the near-IR (< 4,5 micrometer wavelength). This large range is necessary to study the different material classes addressed at the chair Experimentelle Physik 2 together with our collaboration partners. The material spectrum has been recently extended from traditional III-V and II-VI semiconductors to materials such as colloidal nanostructures, perovskites and 2D-materials, the band gaps of which can be varied across this spectral range by changing structural composition and size. The laser system of the company M squared is the only one commercially available, which can cover this wavelength range in combination with excellent parameters such as linewidth (< 0,5 MHz, in the visible < 100 kHz), sufficient emission power (at least several tens of mW at high temporal stability), and low intensity noise (< 0,3 % rms). Also the excellent beam quality in the TEM00-mode has to be mentioned. In addition, the system is very tightly arranged and robust in combination with full automatization, ensuring a flexible operation.
