The aim of the project is the digitization of the medieval manuscripts of the GWLB. The collection consists of 180 manuscripts. As a former court library with a historiographic focus the collection has a considerable proportion of historical, jurisprudential and theological handwritings. As a result of the function as regional library various manuscripts have a provenance from Lower Saxony or Noth Germany, particularly from monastery-run medieval scriptoria or libraries of scholars. The manuscripts have been cataloged in the 1980s in cooperation with the ‚Arbeitsstelle zur Handschriftenerschließung Niedersachsens in der Herzog August Bibliothek‘. The manuscripts shall be scanned and processed in a Kitodo workflow at the in-house digitization lab in accordance with the DFG guidelines for digitization.
