Pore-scale formulations for evaporation, and upscaling to REV scale (A05)

Subject Area Mathematics
Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Limnology, Urban Water Management, Water Chemistry, Integrated Water Resources Management
Term since 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 327154368

Evaporation in porous media is relevant for many engineering processes and for soil cultivation. These processes occur over several scales, where the evolving liquid-gas interface is important to describe the evaporation at the pore scale, while its effect is found on the REV scale. The main goal of this project is to provide a better mathematical description of REV-scale evaporation by accounting for pore-scale processes. The starting point is a pore-scale formulation of the relevant processes and upscaling to derive an effective model at REV scale is performed.
