Validation center for optomechatronic systems

Subject Area Materials Engineering
Term Funded in 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 429422101

One result of the research activities of the Institute of Product Development are optomechatronic systems and additively manufactured functional components made of optical materials and multi-material compounds. For the validation of these components at demonstrator and prototype level, the institute offers extensive optical measuring equipment as well as static and dynamic load test stands. Vibration testing and non-destructive analysis of additively manufactured components are not possible yet.The aim of this proposal is to provide the opportunity for multiphysical validation of components and systems. This is a necessary step since in several projects at the Institute such as PhoenixD, the joint project GROTESK, Tailored Light and the graduate school SAM, optomechatronic systems are being created, which must be validated on system level at various loading scenarios. This proposal is for an optomechatronic validation center consisting of a central climate test chamber, two test boxes, a shaker and a CT scanner. The powerful climate test chamber is able to condition the peripheral test boxes in a wide temperature and humidity range. One of the test boxes is designed so that precise optical measurements can be taken during the test. The second test box is compatible with the shaker to apply combined load scenarios. For the non-destructive testing of the components, a compact CT scanner is requested with which in particular additive manufactured multi-material components and components with internal structures can be analyzed.
