A high-throughput system is required for the documentation, analysis and optimization of crystallization experiments and the sensitive identification of protein crystals. The system will allow the automated tracking of crystallization experiments over a period of several weeks at a constant temperature. The nucleation and growth of protein crystals will be reliably documented, even under difficult optical conditions, in the presence of aggregated material and salt crystals. The system will support a variety of plate formats. A modular design of the system based on exchangeable standard components is preferred.
