This project aims at investigating fundamental electronic-correlation driven processes such autoionisation and Auger decay by nonlinear XUV and X-ray spectroscopy. At the same time we aim at advancing the capability of time-resolved experiment at FELs, by investigating the generation of trains of attosecond pulses by seeded FELs.The project will be based on a close collaboration between experiments performed at FELs (FERMI adn EuXFEL) or using table-top high-order harmonic generation sources, and theoretical developments for the simulation of nonlinear XUV and X-ray processes and for the reconstruction of attosecond waveforms at FELs. The group at the university of Freiburg will be responsible for the experimental part of the project, while the group at the Lomonosov University will carry out the development of the theoretical and reconstruction tools used in the project. The excellent degree of communication and cooperation between the two Principal Investigators (Prof. Giuseppe Sansone and Prof. Alexei Grum-Grzhimailo) is certified by the track of record of common publications and by the several relative exchange and reciprocal visits during the last six years.
