For the research work on the cold plastic metal sheets forming of metallic materials with large dimensions (plate thickness >5 mm; dimensions >1 m x 1 m), the applicants require a test field for carrying out scalable experimental investigations. An automated rope-guided handling system based on a modular control is required for positioning the components to be formed. By using a modular mechanical structure the forming processes by free bending (e.g. three-point-bending), cold forging (e.g. stretching) and rolling (e.g. roller presses) may be represented. The technical basis is a vibration-decoupled multifunctional clamping field (dimensions depth 3 m x width 6 m x height 3 m), a connected static clamping field for peripheral test setups, a pressing tool for applying the forming forces (2 MN) and a rope-guided handling system. This equipment can be used to investigate the production issues mentioned above. For predicting the complex forming behavior, calculations models have to be developed and validated. These model approaches form the basis for the development of innovative control algorithms for automation solutions related to process and handling. The planned forming tasks cannot be carried out on the equipment currently available at the University of Rostock. By applying for the device the performance spectrum of possible forming tasks and handling tasks will significantly expanded.
