OxWCA - From Innocent and Ligand-forming Oxidant Salts to the Synthesis and Application of Reactive Alkaline Earth or Early Transition Metal-Arene-Cations [Mx(arene)y]n+

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2019 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 431116391

With this project, substantial deficits in two areas of oxidation = deelectronation chemistry shall be advanced. The developed methods – Innocent and Ligand-forming Oxidant Salts – shall provide straight-forward access to stable weakly coordinating anion salts of the hitherto underdeveloped area of metal-arene-complex cations [Mx(arene)y]n+ with M being from Group 2 as well as Groups 3 to 5. We expect that the target metal cations retain a substantial amount of Lewis acidity / electrophilicity in this non-conventional coordination environment. Thus, the metal-arene-complexes will be used for orienting applications, i.e. either for selected substitution reactions with non-conventional ligands or olefin/epoxide polymerization e.g. with ansa-arene ligands.
