The transition of the academic publishing system towards Open Access has globally gathered speed and is well underway. The Open Access transition aims to transform the current publishing system, replacing the subscription business model with a publication-based model. In the future payments will no longer be made for reading articles but for their publication in Open Access.At the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena and the University Hospital Open Access publishing has already made progress. Authors already publish partially their research results via Open Access. As part of the funding project the number of Open Access publications shall be increased. This substantially contribute e to the Open Access transition at the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena. The applicated resources shall fund Author Processing Charges for articles in Gold Open Access journals from corresponding authors, affiliated to the University of Jena.The project will be implemented by the Thuringian University and State Library of Jena. The Thuringian University and State Library has established workflows in the context of Open Access and provides a comprehensive information infrastructure for electronic publishing. In addition, the library has many years of experience in acquisition and license management for electronic resources. The results of the project will be recorded in the library union catalogue and the discovery system of the Thuringian University and State Library as well as in a local Open Access monitoring system, which is currently under construction. The applicants aim to consolidate the Open Access Initiative at the University of Jena beyond the period of funding.
