Tunable THz Optoelectronic Tester
Subject Area
Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Term
Funded in 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 433804753
The central research focus of the Institute for High Frequency and Communication Technology is the development of the terahertz portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. For this purpose, novel THz cameras, communication and sensor systems are investigated based on innovative circuit concepts and optoelectronic components. To characterize these devices, a laser-based "broadband THz optoelectronic tester" is required and requested. This equipment enables the generation and detection of broadband (0.1 - 2.7 THz) terahertz signals with extreme spectral purity and low phase noise. In addition, new optoelectronic SiGe based integrated devices for the 780nm and 440nm wavelength range can be explored. The "Tunable THz Optoelectronic Tester" equipment consists of the following four components: A) THz transmitter (beat generator), B) THz optomechanics, C) THz receiver (beat generator), and D) On-chip THz signal processor.
