Final Report Abstract

SOCLIFE war ein interdisziplinäres Graduiertenkolleg (GK), in dem während der neunjährigen Förderperiode mehr als zwanzig Professorinnen und Professoren der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften, der Statistik und der Rechtswissenschaft und eine Vielzahl von Experten aus anderen Universitäten in und außerhalb Europas zusammengearbeitet haben. An dem GK waren fast fünfzig Doktoranden und Doktorandinnen beteiligt. Thema des GKs war die Frage nach dem Einfluss nationaler Kontexte auf Einstellungen und Verhalten individueller und kollektiver Akteure. Der internationale Vergleich nationaler Kontexte ist eine Forschungsstrategie, die viele Disziplinen teilen. Aber er hat in seinen verschiedenen Ansätzen Stärken, die SOCLIFE durch die Verwendung international vergleichbarer Umfragedaten, der Sichtung von Makrodaten und den Einsatz von Mehrebenenanalysen genutzt hat. Internationale Vergleiche beschränken sich häufig entweder auf die Analyse von Personen innerhalb mehrerer Länder oder auf die Analyse globaler Kennziffern zwischen Ländern. Für die erste Vorgehensweise liegen harmonisierte Umfragen als Datenquelle vor, für die zweite Vorgehensweise Aggregatdatenbanken. Beide Vorgehensweisen haben ihre Schwächen. Weil Korrelationen von Personenmerkmalen zwischen verschiedenen Ländern schwanken, können sie erst mit Blick auf die höhere Ebene als allgemeine Regelmäßigkeiten interpretiert werden. Weil Korrelationen über Ländermerkmale sich auf keinen identifizierbaren Akteur beziehen, können sie erst mit Blick auf die tiefere Ebene interpretiert werden. SOCLIFE hat beide Vorgehensweisen verbunden, indem der Einfluss von Sozialordnung, Sozialstruktur und Sozialgeschichte (als Merkmale des nationalen Kontextes) auf Einstellungen und Handlungen natürlicher und korporativer Akteure in unterschiedlichen Lebensbereichen (Politik, Wirtschaft, Zivilgesellschaft und Kultur) untersucht wurden. Im Rahmen von ca. fünfzig Dissertationsprojekten wurden allgemeine Hypothesen über den Einfluss von Sozialordnung, Sozialstruktur und Sozialgeschichte auf Akteure in Ländern ausgearbeitet und mit dem statistischen Instrument der Mehrebenenanalyse geprüft. In der zweiten Förderperiode wurden vereinzelt experimentelle und längsschnittliche Analysen durchgeführt, um die auf Basis von Querschnittsdaten gefundenen korrelativen Zusammenhänge zu validieren.
