Scale-bridging 3D characterisation of hierarchical stationary phase materials (C01)

Subject Area Synthesis and Properties of Functional Materials
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 416229255

Project Description

The objective of C01 is the characterisation of stationary phase materials across all length scales: From meso-porous particles, via porous layers, to supraparticles and complete columns. We will focus on method developments to correlate electron tomography, nanocomputed tomography and micro-computed tomography and accurately extract quantitative pore network characteristics. This strategy will enable the identification of hidden pore fractions, packing inhomogeneities and their influence on separation, and provide realistic 3D pore and structure data as input for the modelling of particle transport and aggregation. In this context, we will investigate the influence of the stationary phase material particle size and morphology on the column packing and performance.
