The Database Information System (DBIS) was developed by the University Library of Regensburg in 2002 and is a cooperatively used, web-based directory of scholarly databases, which currently supports the scholars and students of 332 institutions in the selection of the databases required for their bibliographical and literature research. This project serves the expansion and sustainable operation of DBIS closely based on the new needs of scholars and students. The creation of an English-language interface will also address the ongoing internationalization of the German research landscape and the possibility of using DBIS by foreign institutions. Interested partners in the field of information infrastructure should be provided with data delivery services and interfaces for data exchange. Particular attention needs to be paid to the needs of newly created user groups and to the fact that the system needs to be easily adaptable to future requirements.
