The envisaged subproject B15 focuses on one of the numerous aspects of the pharaonic writing culture and examines the use and the function of material-bound means of structure on Egyptian papyri. The main interest of the project centres on phenomena such as rubra, blank spaces, verse points, positionally precise additions, page and line numbers, the grH-sign etc. The result will be a dissertation on the questions of what kind of infor-mation is communicated via such visual means of structure and how their use develops in the course of time.
