The project will establish a wrinkling based metrology as method for quantifying mechanical properties of synthetic 2DMs. The periodicity of wrinkles formed by substrate-supported 2D layers can be directly related to their mechanical properties if the materials thickness and elastic properties if the materials thickness and elastic properties of the substrate are known. In this context, the project will aim at investigating single- and few-layer synthetic 2DMs with special attention to understanding the effect of interlayer coupling on mechanics. Moreover, the coupling between mechanical properties and optoelectronics will be targeted by establishing setups for in-situ characterization of strain-induced changes in band-structure.
