Hybrid spectrometer

Subject Area Molecular Chemistry
Term Funded in 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 444286426

About 30 scientists at the Institute of Organic Chemistry (IOC) and the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry (IOC) synthesize new homochiral organic compounds which can be used as semiconductors, absorbers and light emitting materials ranging from the visible up to the near infrared region. The requested hybrid spectrometer for the determination of the circular polarized luminescence as well as circular dichroism will help us the access the chiroptical and photophysical properties of these homochiral compounds, their aggregates in solution as well as in thin-films or the solid state. While the individual chromophores and the self-assembled aggregates thereof will help to shed light into fundamental processes in solution, and can be used for imaging as well as sensory applications, the solid state materials should be implemented in (opto )electronic devices. Complementary in depth investigations of samples under exactly the conditions by circular polarized luminescence and dichroism spectroscopy will enable to quantitatively access their chiroptical and photophysical properties for possible applications.
