Project Details
Fiber-reinforced plant organs as inspiration for carbon fiber-reinforced concrete structures (A03)
Subject Area
Evolution and Systematics of Plants and Fungi
Term
since 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 417002380
The project will again provide inspiration from the plant world also in the second funding period. The focus is now on rhizomes from the Zingiberaceae family that run horizontally in the soil as a model for dissolved structures for foundations. In addition, the interlocked leaf petioles of bananas and similar perennial herbs and the bracts of selected Araceae will be analyzed. The latter serve as a model for curved shell elements. In addition to these newly investigated plant models, part of the work program is to implement the previously obtained results from funding period 1 into structural components in cooperation with the other projects.
