Triangulations of surfaces can be approximated by simplicial surfaces. The subproject A04 (Niemeyer) will classify simplicial surfaces with a predetermined boundary and a given number of triangles, describe three-dimensional connected objects that facilitate topological interlocking, and examine how to produce planar folding patters to stabilise folded structures such as folded carbon reinforced concrete surfaces.
