Septins are suggested to be the fourth component of the cytoskeleton and are involved in a plethora of cellular processes. However, our knowledge about this family of GTP-binding proteins is still limited. Aim of the project is to elucidate the function of septins in vesicular traffic to the primary cilium. The study focusses on the analysis of septin interactions with Rab-associated vesicles, microtubules and motor proteins. Moreover, the project analyzes the influence of septins on the apical microtubule array around the cilium and the regulation of septin assembly at the cilium and apical microtubules.
